about Vidura College
Throughout times, Sri Lanka has been renowned for its high literacy rate. Our people have always known the value of learning and associate good social standing to the level of education they have received. Lessons written on sand tablets (veli puuruwa) are now being written on smart boards due to the advancement of technology.
The obstacle Sri Lankans face when they settle down in Italy is finding a good school for their children. Between the culturally different Italian schools with their western syllabus and the Cambridge affiliated international schools which is geared for first language English students, our children get lost in terms of education, age and moral values.
Vidura College founders understands these needs and came out with a well-conceived plan for a school which would provide a sound education for our children, keeping to our traditions, values and ethics. The main mission of the school is to take our rough gems and polish them into a generation of responsible, self-confident, honest and successful young adults who are able to achieve their goals against all odds.

It was the British who first spread English around the globe through imperialism from the 1600s to the 1900s. As other countries were colonized by the British, English became established as the language of education and government. In many cases, English served as a useful common language among populations with different native tongues. This factor contributed to the survival of English in many places long after the British were gone.
Since the 20th century, the United States has had a stronger influence on the globalization of English. America is not only a major economic power but also the source of a great deal of pop culture and entertainment in movies, television, and on the internet. Consequently, knowing English gives non-native speakers access to a huge amount of content as well as a wealth of opportunities in the international marketplace.

The major goals of primary or elementary education are achieving basic literacy and numeracy amongst all pupils, as well as establishing foundations in science, mathematics, geography, history and other social sciences. The relative priority of various areas, and the methods used to teach them, are an area of considerable political debate.
Typically, primary or elementary education is provided in schools, where the child will stay in steadily advancing classes until they complete it and move on to high school/secondary school. Children are usually placed in classes with one teacher who will be primarily responsible for their education and welfare for that year. This teacher may be assisted to varying degrees by specialist teachers in certain subject areas, often music or physical education. The continuity with a single teacher and the opportunity to build up a close relationship with the class is a notable feature of the primary education system.

Youngsters who are given high-quality education - starting at six weeks old and continuing through the first five years of life - makes a lifetime of difference.
They are more likely to have successful careers and get on better with their parents as adults. Researchers have followed 96 people for more than 45 years since they were born in 1971 in North Carolina in the US for the Abecedarian Project.
Professor Craig Ramey, of Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute who led the research over the past 45 years, said: "The most recent findings from the Abecedarian Project are about the quality of life, tied to what the children experienced in the first five years of life.read more

Let us strive to teach for understanding of mathematical concepts and procedures, the "why" something works, and not only the "how".
This understanding, as I'm sure you realize, doesn't always come immediately. It may take even several years to grasp a concept. For example, place value is something children understand partially at first, and then that deepens over a few years.
This is why many math curricula use spiraling: they come back to a concept the next year, the next year, and the next. This can be very good if not done excessively (for 5-6 years is probably excessive).
However, spiraling has pitfalls also: if your child doesn't get a concept, don't blindly "trust" the spiraling and think, "Well, she gets it the next year when the book comes back around to it."

Typically, IT is used in the context of enterprise operations as opposed to personal or entertainment technologies. The commercial use of IT encompasses both computer technology and telephony.
The term information technology was coined by the Harvard Business Review, in order to make a distinction between purpose-built machines designed to perform a limited scope of functions and general-purpose computing machines that could be programmed for various tasks. As the IT industry evolved from the mid-20th century, it encompassed transistors and integrated circuits -- computing capability advanced while device cost and energy consumption fell lower, a cycle that continues today when new technologies emerge.

Geography within Italy has undergone several important changes since its development as a school and university subject during the 19th century. The 1960s were an especially important period of major change with the introduction of scientific, conceptual elements to the field. Those changes were accompanied by several curriculum projects of national scope that brought the new geography to the classroom. In the 1980s, geography was recognized as a foundation subject, giving it renewed importance within the curriculum of the secondary schools. Government intervention has increased within most aspects of education, especially with regard to examinations and training for employment, thus placing greater strains upon the teaching force. Within the general framework of education, geography provides a unique perspective. As a discipline, it infuses a global dimension at the macro-level and a sense of place at the micro-level. That perspective is important since it bridges general knowledge of the discipline to social and environmental issues at various scales.
